Katla Fish Kalia | Katla Fish Kalia Recipe | Katla Macher Recipe

Katla Fish Kalia | Katla Macher Recipe has well known a very famous Bengali dish. In other words, Bengali is loved fish in lunch as a mandatory dish. Not only in lunch we also love to eat fish with many different recipes.

I shared many fish recipes nowhere on the website and also on my YouTube channel. For example, Fish Fingers, Fish Egg Curry, Fish Batter Fry, Bata Fish Recipe are prepared.

How to Cook Katala Fish Kalia?

  • At first, I have taken big Katla Fish.
  • You can use Rohu Fish also.
  • Then cut fish in ring shapes.
  • Clean and wash well in water.
  • After that, wash fish pieces marinated with a pinch of salt and turmeric powder for few minutes.
  • Paste onions and tomatoes differently.
  • Paste also a few Garlic cloves and two pieces of green chili.
  • Fry fish in mustard oil till medium fry.
  • The remaining oil is using for the next step.
  • Adding Clove, Cinnamon, Green cardamom in hot oil for 30 seconds.
  • After that, add onion, garlic, green chili paste and mix well.
  • Add ginger paste, turmeric, Kashmiri red chilly, Coriander, Cumin powder, and tomato paste.
  • Mix well all ingredients and fry well till extract oil.
  • After that, add Cashew, Poppy Seeds, Dried Melon Seeds paste, and salt as per taste. Stir well for 1 minute.
  • Pour 1 cup of water and boil curry for 1 minute.
  • Add fish pieces into the gravy. Boil for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add Garam masala and Coriander leaves to make the curry more effective on taste.
  • At last, Switch off the flame and lid for 5 minutes.

Finally, Serve Katla Fish Kalia with steamed rice. Enjoy your lunch which makes your day happy indeed.


  • Katla Fish - 300 gram
  • Cashew - few pieces
  • Poppy Seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Dried Melon Seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion - 30 gram
  • Tomato - 20 gram
  • Garlic clove - 6 pieces
  • Green chili - 2 pieces
  • Ginger paste - 1 teaspoon
  • Clove - 2 pieces
  • Green cardamom - 2 pieces
  • Cinnamon - 1/4 inch
  • Salt as per need
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Kashmiri red chili - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander leaves few
  • Mustard oil - 10 tablespoon
  • Water - 1 cup
